Industry News: Industry Officials, Organizers Talk About Ways to Jumpstart Stalled Inline World Attendees at Duluth Meeting Agree to Establish Lines of Communication By Robert "Just the Factoids" Burnson Skate industry officials and organizers took a few small steps today toward the creation of a new trade organization for inline skating. Meeting in Duluth, Minn., site of tomorrow's Northshore Inline Marathon, the group agreed to establish lines of communications with the help of a Yahoo discussion group and newsletter. Meet Again in Miami The group also agreed to a second meeting, which will be held in February during the Great Es-Skate in Miami. "Everybody got to participate and say what they wanted, which is fantastic," said Allan Wright, the owner of Zephyr Adventures. "And we made some decisions that I think will be very good for the industry." Filling the Void Wright organized the "For Skating" meeting to help fill the void left by last December's disbanding of the International Inline Skating Association (IISA). Among the 35 who attended today's meeting were Rollerblade's Stephen Charrier and Nick Skally, K2's Michael Powell, USA Roller Sports' Richard Hawkins, and Heather Lacayo of the United Skate Schools Group. Several event organizers, among them Mike Cofrin of the St. Paul Inline Marathon and Chuck Carlberg of the Northshore, also attended. Grow the Industry "The whole thing is about creating lines of communication so that everyone who is involved and wants to be involved can talk about things that will grow the industry," Wright said. "Step Two will be to set up a new industry organization. But that is still down the line." | Discuss Related reading: Go to the Planet directory of industry news | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
