Planet Extras! | eToys Selects Fisher-Price's Innovative Kid Skate As One of Its Top "Activity Toys" The online merchant eToys The Fisher-Price skates are cleverly designed and get rave reviews from parents of young children, although parents of older kids say the skates are too small. The skates come in two colors: red and pink (pink is the Barbie model); they are worn over children's shoes, sizes 6-12; they have two training wheels in the back to provide stability; and they have three settings. Setting 1 locks a middle wheel so kids can walk on the skates without rolling. Setting 2 allows the wheels to roll forward but not back. And Setting 3 lets all the wheels roll freely. Two cautionary notes: Fisher-Price markets the skates for children "two and up," but parents with children five and over have reported that the skates were too small. The skates are intended for children who weigh less than 44 pounds, which is about the average weight for a five year old. Parents of younger children (especially two year olds) seem to have nothing but praise for the skates in the reviews on Amazon.com. But be advised: My First Skates (price: $15 U.S.) have been known to induce Matzger-ish behavior. One mother who bought her 2-year-old daughter a pair gave this report on Amazon: "She wants to wear them everywhere, including bed!" (posted March 8, 2005) | Related Reading: | |||||||||
