New Skating Magazine Set to Debut in June

Race & Roll Will Also Sponsor a Marathon Racing Series

By Robert "Just the Factoids" Burnson

Inline skaters have been without a magazine since FASST stopped publishing last year in the aftermath of a Florida hurricane.

But come June, they will have a new magazine, says publisher Dan Archambeau.

The magazine will be called Race & Roll. It will be published every other month and cost $24 a year.

Archambeau, who has an accounting and marketing background, says he decided to start the magazine because, "I love to skate, I love to write, and I desperately want more participation in inline skating."

Race Series

The magazine will sponsor a points series for skaters of designated marathons in the United States and Canada.

Points will be awarded to the top ten finishers in various categories, including professional, masters, advanced and fitness/recreational. Trophies and cash will be awarded after the last race of the series.

So far, nine events have been included in the North American Inline Marathon Series.

Among them are the Disney, Napa, Toronto, Duluth and Long Beach marathons. Other events may be added.

Registering for the series is free to subscribers; $15 for others.

FASST?

By the time of Race & Roll's planned launch, it could have some competition.

FASST editor Lauri Dowling told USA Roller Sports in January that the magazine, whose full name is the Fitness and Speed Skating Times, was about to resume publication.

But so far, no new issues have appeared

The magazine abruptly halted publication last year after its headquarters in Vero Beach, Fla., were hit by a hurricane.

Its lengthy hibernation has led to speculation about its ability to recover.
