Veteran skate teacher Trish Alexander shares her knowledge of skating in her Rec/Fitness column on the Inline Planet. | Trish Alexander Trish Alexander was an ice skater as a child but didn't start inline skating until 1994 when she met the so-called "Skate King," Neil Fjeldheim. Fjeldheim persuaded Trish to rent a pair of Rollerblades and the experience changed her life. "As soon as I put them on, my heart started pounding," she says. She spent lots of time on skates during the next few years and before long was teaching lessons at a local skate school. A few years later, she opened her own school, Skate Journeys in Bellevue, WA, which has grown into one of the most successful inline schools in North America. In addition to running the school, she leads skate tours to faraway places, among them Paris and Idaho. She is also an education specialist with the United Skate Schools Group. Despite her busy schedule, she still skates several times a week. "There are other things that are great in my life," she says. "But skating just brings me so much joy. It's all I want to do." ... • Skate Journey web site
