Skate law:

Saint Paul Suburb Eyes Skate Ban
Proposed ordinance would criminalize skating in parts of Forest Lake
By Planet staff
posted Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006

The city council of Forest Lake, Minn., will consider banning skating from parts of the city during its Monday (Sept. 25, 2006) meeting.

The ordinance was apparently triggered by frustration with property damage caused by skateboarders who practice their stunts on public property.

The police chief proposed the skate ban. If approved, it will apply to both skateboarders and roller skaters (which usually includes inline skaters). It bans skating in various sections of downtown Forest Lake, including Lakeside Park.

Progressive cities have rejected these kinds of outright skate bans. Instead, they simply beef up enforcement of existing laws against vandalism.
