Gifts: New Calendar Illuminates the Inline World Choice Prois - The front cover of the calendar features the women's sprint at the 2005 Long Beach Inline Marathon. The inline world got lucky when Darlene Prois, after a few tries, decided that she didn't much care for skating. Instead of a skater, we got a photographer ... and not just any photographer, a professional photojournalist with years of experience and a pile of national press awards. We've featured Prois' brilliant photos regularly on the Inline Planet. Now she has used them as the basis of a stunning new wall calendar for 2007. The calendar ($15) features 13 of Prois' greatest shots, taken at inline marathons throughout the United States. Darlene Prois A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Prois has worked at the Minneapolis Star Tribune since 1977, not only as a photographer and reporter, but also, for seven years, as director of photography. Her introduction to inline skating came five years ago when she met her husband-to-be Dave Prois, an avid skater and member of the Flanders racing team. Dave and his daughter Heather (founder of the Hayward Inline Marathon) tried to get Darlene rolling. But she preferred the role of observer.
Nonetheless, she began tagging along on Team Flanders road trips — and while Dave and Heather skated, she took pictures. So began Prois' photo-chronicle of the inline world. Since then, she's taken thousands of photos, notable for their vivid colors, perfect composition and epic drama. Hers is a great body of work. And now you can put it on your wall! Latest headlines
