Racing News:

Most USOC Money to Go to Core Adult World Team
Decision made by USA Roller Sports' executive committee

The eight core members of the adult U.S. World Team will each get $4500 for travel expenses to attend this summer's World Speed Skating Championships in South Korea.

The eight skaters who only qualified as members of the marathon squad will get $1500 a piece, as will the 16 members of the Junior World Team.

The money is coming from the U.S. Olympic Committee, which agreed to help finance the World Team after the national governing body for roller sports began talks on starting a program to transition top inline speed skaters to ice.

USA Roller Sports' executive committee made the decision on how to divvy-up the $72,000 from the USOC.

The per-skater cost of attending the World Championships is $4650.

Some countries pay the way for their top inline skaters to attend world championships. But many, including Canada, do not.

As a result, some of the world's top skaters stay home.
