Product News Inventor Comes Out With Hybrid Inline-Quad Skate Street Rail Said to Be Both Fast and Maneuverable Planet staff Inventor Pat McHale says his patented Street Rails combine the best of both worlds the speed of inlines and the maneuverability of quads. The skates have five wheels mounted on a long frame. Three of the wheels are mounted on the inside of the frame, two on the outside. The out-of-line positioning of the wheels means a relatively wide wheel base, which gives the skates stability. The long frame provides speed. McHale started testing the skates 15 years ago and since then, he says, has skated 75,000 miles on them. He uses them for skating trails and playing hockey. "The skate fits into the multi-use category," he says. "You can get crankin' on them if you want speed or you can rec skate or play hockey. No other skate offers as much diversity. Additionally, the inherent stability of the skate affords a safety factor unavailable on inlines."
