K2 Puts a Little Polish on Its High-End Rec-Fitness Skates

Are this year's VO2 models the same as last year's?

Not quite.

But in fact, K2 is making only minor changes to its high-end recreational-fitness line of skates for 2006.

"It was a first-year skate for us last year, and it did really well," says K2 marketing manager Michael Powell. "So we just added some more breathability and changed some of the graphics."

The improved breathability means more air vents in the boot.

The change in graphics means a different (brighter) color scheme for the women's models and a few minor changes (for instance, a new power strap) for the men's models.

The VO2 skates come in two versions: the base model with 84mm wheels and the "Max" with 90mm "Big Wheels."

A Look at the Individual Models:

Features of the VO2 for women (pictured above:)

  • four 84mm wheels
  • aluminum frame
  • a high cuff (for stability)
  • ILQ-9 bearings

Street price is expected to be $179. The skates are already showing up in stores and online.

K2 describes the VO2 as "a commuter skate with the ability to endure a marathon or training session."
