Planet Adventure's new Indianapolis race series opens Saturday morning with an NROC-sanctioned inline marathon. Skaters will compete on a 1.4-mile loop course in Brookside Park. The full marathon starts at 8 a.m. Eastern Time; the half, at 1:15 p.m. So far, registrations for the race have been light, said Thomas A. Stergar II, Planet Adventure's inline event coordinator. But "we're excited we have this much interest so far." Among the notable signups are Simmons' Hernan Diaz, Pyro's Alan Marcosson, Asphalt Beach's Bob Harwell and Skater Quest's Brian Oswald. Forecasters are predicting cool temperatures with periods of sun and clouds on Saturday in Indianapolis. In the past few weeks, city work crews have patched parts of the Brookside Park road course, Stergar said. But rough areas remain. As a result, skaters are advised to use soft wheels.
The race is the first inline event for Planet Adventures, which is hoping to make skating a regular part of its offerings. Previously, the company has organized running, cycling and adventure sports events. The company has scheduled five inline races for this year; all include full marathons. Four of the races, including Brookside, are Class A NROC events. Look for coverage of the marathon on the Inline Planet on Saturday morning.
