Jimmy Blair sprints for home in the 2007 Texas Road Rash. Some of North America's top skaters will be competing this weekend in the Texas Road Rash in Round Rock. Among the elites will be Bont's Justin Stelly, 23, of Lafayette, LA. Stelly finished second in last month's Squiggy Classic Inline and leads the National Roller Cup's open pro division with 100 points. Two skaters who are likely to keep him from relaxing are Cado Motus' William Bowen and Ryan Weiderhold. Bowen, 24, of Greensboro, NC, finished third in last year's Road Rash; Weiderhold, 21, of Harrisonburg, VA, was fourth. Competition in the master, veteran and grand veterans divisions is expected to be intense with many of America's top skaters lacing up, including Bont's Debbie Rice. Rice, 42, of Palmetto, FL, won her division in last year's World Master's Marathon Championships. Skating against each other this year in the pro men's masters (35-44) division will be two former teammates, Alex Fedak and Ryan Chrisler. Fedak and Chrisler were longtime Simmons Racing teammates. But this year, Chrisler moved to the Bont North American team. He will be skating in the race with teammate Norm Kirby, who leads the NROC pro masters division.
The skater to beat in the veteran's division (45-54) appears to be Adams Inline's David Swan, who earlier this month won the Metrodome Inline Marathon in Minneapolis. Challenging him will be several powerful veterans, including Herb Gayle and Simmons' Hernan Diaz. The Texas Road Rash is a major race in the 2010 National Roller Cup.
