Cado Motus Pro108 Netherlands' skate maker Cado Motus has revamped its high-end inline speed boot, giving it more ankle support, shrinking the toe box and making it more heat-moldable. The new Pro108 ($620 USD) replaces the company's first racing boot, the Pro107, which had earned mixed reviews. "We just knew that we could improve the boot," said Cado Motus' Geert Plender. "We always want the best, but the PRO107 was ... a little different from what we expected." The new boot fits, feels and looks better, Plender said. Changes The company used less foam and more carbon around the boot's ankle to provide added support. It also redesigned the last (the form on which a boot is built), Plender said. In doing so, it shrunk the size of the toe box, in response to concerns that last year's boot was too loose around the toes. The company also made the boot more heat-moldable, said John Dimon of Dimon Sports, which carries Cado Modus products. "It's a much more comfortable fit," Dimon said. Spacing The boot uses the 195mm spacing between frame mounts. This is the standard spacing for most of today's 100 and 110mm frames.
The mounting blocks have multiple M6-threaded holes (5 in front, 3 in back). This allows skaters to easily change frame alignment and reposition frames in case of stripped threads. (There is no worse feeling than stripping the one hole in your skate's mounting blocks, especially the night before a race.) The PRO108 comes in European sizes 38 to 45 (foot measurements of 235mm to 290mm) and an attractive orange, silver, and white color scheme. The upper part of the boot is synthetic leather. Underneath is a full microfiber lining. The boot uses a standard closure system: laces with a three-quarter lace cover and micro-buckle fastener. (I always like micro-buckles. They allow me to keep my skates nice and loose during a marathon, and then tighten them before the final sprint.) This boot is intended for experienced racers and fitness enthusiasts. Cado Motus Cado Motus was founded two years ago by Diederik Hol and Henk Schra, the owner of Stouwdam Skateshop of Holland. Prior to starting the company, Hol was an engineer at Mogema. Australia's Michal Byrne is also part of the company. "Cado motus" means the "falling motion of the body," and refers to the side-to-side weight transfer of skating.
