K2 Electra
Overview: The Electra is a high-cuff women's fitness skate that is built for speed with 90mm and 100mm wheels. (Price: $245-299 USD) The T:Nine Electra The Electra is K2's first women's-specific skate that includes 100mm wheels. Essentially, it is the women's version of last year's Moto Extreme. Like the Moto, it is a high-cuff skate with two 90mm and two 100mm wheels. The combination is intended to provide ample ankle support along with higher speeds and smoother rolling. Who's It For? K2's skate product manager Mike Powell says the Electra was designed for women who skate for fitness and might also want to compete in a marathon. "The Electra is the perfect skate for women who want to train, skate marathons or just have fun at speed," the company says. The skate uses K2's Hi-Lo frame, which is made of a lightweight aluminum-titanium alloy. The frame takes 90mm wheels in front and 100mm wheels in back. The high-low setup puts the foot in an optimal skating position, without the need to build up the heel, Powell said. The skate includes K2's most supportive (and highest) cuff, the Enhanced Stability Cuff. The cuff rises several inches above the ankle. Soft Boot
The skate uses K2's patented soft-boot technology. That means it has a soft liner, which looks like a foam boot and is held in place by a plastic exoskeleton, or shell. The liner is made of synthetic leather, memory foam and mesh. It is breathable, although not removable. The closure system is standard: cloth laces, a Velcro ankle strap and a plastic cuff buckle. The Electra's styling is subdued: white with black and green accents. Emblazoned on the outer ankle is a small pink ribbon, in recognition of the fact that a portion of each sale goes to fund breast cancer research. The Electra was designed in the United States and is manufactured in China.
