Renault Kangoo Compact Concept
Renault Kangoo Compact Concept - Top view showing skate racks on tailgate. Rollerblade has teamed up with the French car maker Renault to develop a compact sports utility vehicle that targets active adults and — at least in the prototype — includes built-in racks for inline skates. The three-door Kangoo Compact Concept is a van-styled SUV that Renault plans to roll out in 2009. The company introduced the car at last September's Frankfurt Motor Show. So far, the automotive press has been enthusiastic about the Compact, which they describe as eye-catching, fun and spacious. Renault says the car was "built around a roller-skating theme" in partnership with Rollerblade and inspired by the "shared values of mobility, togetherness and lust for life." The car's cheerful orange and blue color scheme brings to mind the styling of Rollerblade's freestyle skate, the Twister, which in some versions has sported a bright orange shell. (This year's Twister is orange and black.)
The Compact prototype features a scooped tailgate that releases to reveal two handy skate racks, one on each side. (See photo, above). The car is expected to sell for about $17,600 (US). So far, there is no word on U.S. availability or gas mileage. ...
